DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS GROUP IN
TANZANIA
Karibuni! Welcome to the DPG-Health Website

The Development Partners Group for Health (DPG Health) is a collection of 17 bi-lateral and multi-lateral agencies supporting the health sector in Tanzania. DPG-Health has been established to support the government of Tanzania in improving the health and well being of all Tanzanians and to promote coordination among development partners for the most efficient use of development partners’ resources. Specifically, the DPG-Health supports the government of Tanzania in its efforts to achieve the health objectives in the Mkukuta, the National Health Policy(swahili version) and the Health Sector Strategic Plan (HSSP III) . These are funded in a variety of ways, through general budget support, the health basket, projects, technical assistance and through goods in kind.
DPG Health is one of the sub-groups of the overall Development Partners Group (DPG) which seeks to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of coordination and harmonization of development partners. DPG Health is organized around terms of reference and a code of conduct agreed between government and DPs and is organized through a troika chairing structure (an incoming, present and outgoing chairing arrangement). These act as the lead of the DPG Health, with other DPs either active or delegating members, in accordance with the division of labour outlined in the Joint Assistance Strategy for Tanzania (JAST). The DPG Health is supported by a secretariat housed in the World Health Organisation
DPG Health discusses health sector issues with other stakeholders in a number of ways – through six-monthly SWAp Committee Meetings (one of which is the Joint Annual Health Sector Review), bi-monthly technical committee meetings and through various specialist sub-groups. A satisfactory annual sector review is one of the indicators used in the annual review of general budget support.
